What We Can All Learn From “Percy Jackson” — And Reading Kid Lit as a Whole via Bustle
Very interesting article defending “pleasure reading” from being called inferior to so-called “high literature.” Read it and let me know what you think in the comments.
If you read this blog regularly, you can probably guess where I fall in the argument between “as-long-as-they-are-reading” and “better-start-kids-with-the-classics.” I believe reading is always a learning experience whether you are reading a comic book or Shakespeare. I personally think the Percy Jackson series is some of the most interesting and imaginative prose that I’ve read and, yes, I learned things from it. Everyone is different and not everyone gets the same benefit from reading “high literature,” but that doesn’t mean that either type is inferior. I think that whenever people read, it’s a win for everyone.
Here Here! Well said. 🙂
