Book Review – The Cuckoo’s Calling

The Cuckoos CallingThe Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith (a.k.a. J.K. Rowling)

Review: I keep going back and forth on this one. It was too long but I suppose I’m used to that from J.K. Rowling. That being said it was a good first foray into the mystery space. The crime and suspects were well thought-out. The main character is a PI who smokes like a chimney and lives in his office because his personal life is a mess which I felt was slightly cliché. It was a bit of a slog at some points with what I felt was a lot of repeat information but I suppose that could add authenticity and make it feel like a real investigation. The ending was satisfying, maybe a little predictable for more intuitive mystery readers but I’m a little dense when it comes to the clues.
